Agency France-Press (AFP) quoted a high diplomatic source at the United Nations (UN) on Tuesday that the UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, resigned early from his position, less than one year from his appointment last January.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, told AFP that no official reason has been offered at this time for the sudden resignation, practically one month prior to the presidential elections, scheduled for December 24 in Libya.

The source indicated that Kubis may perceive that he does not receive the support he feels necessary to achieve the tasks demanded from him, however, there has been no official confirmation by the Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
