The United Nations expressed concern about the cutting of water supplies to Tripoli after the closure of the water lines feeding the capital and other Libyan cities in the western region.

"This would have a direct negative impact on nearly two million people because of their inability to access water," UN spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric said in a press conference.

He also pointed out that some areas in Tripoli are already witnessing a decline in the flow of water supplies, saying that the impact of this hostile action will be felt in the next two days unless the feeding lines are re-opened.
