The Berlin II conference on Libya will be an opportunity for the international community to unite on Libya and assess the current situation on the ground, as well as reaffirm support for the upcoming elections in December, said UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric on Wednesday.

Dujarric clarified in a press briefing at the UN headquarters in New York that the axes of the conference will focus on the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries from the country, indicating that the event would be a step towards reuniting Libyan institutions.

He also noted that the UN envoy to Libya Jan Kubis will attend the conference, while the UN Secretary-General António Guterres will join in via video link.
