The UN Security Council called Friday on all Libyan parties to revert to the political mediation under the United Nations umbrella and to commit to a ceasefire and halt the current escalation.

In a press statement following the consultation meeting held on Friday, on recent developments in Libya; the UN Security Council stressed that permanent peace and stability in Libya can only be reached through a political solution.

"The Security Council is deeply concerned about the instability in Tripoli and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation which threatens the lives of innocent civilians and threatens the prospects of reaching a political solution," the Security Council stated
