A group of 26 refugees has left Libya to resettle in Canada and Europe, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has confirmed.

The refugees were transferred from Libya to the receiving countries last week with logistical support from the UN Organization for Migration (IOM) in Libya.

A Syrian father of two was among the refugees leaving Libya after living in Tripoli for more than ten years. He "was delighted with the opportunity to travel out of Libya to seek medical treatment for his daughter," the UNHCR said.

The UN organization indicated that its resettlement program from Libya would continue to provide what it described as safe paths, with support and funding from the European Union, Italy, Austria, and Germany.
