The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ghassan Salame, held a meeting at UNSMIL HQ Monday with Commanders of the Western and Central region Forces and the Counter-Terrorism Force on the activation and deployment of the Disengagement and Deconfliction Force in conflicted South Tripoli.

The meeting, which was attended by Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs Stephanie Williams, came to follow-up the Zawia Agreement and the Presidential Council Decree 123, which includes the formation of a joint force for conflict resolution and security.

Salame also met Tuesday with Tripoli HoR members to discuss impact of violence on the residents of the capital.

“They affirmed the need to consolidate ceasefire, ensure children can start their school year and replace armed groups with regular forces composed from across Libya.” The UNSMIL said.
