The UN mission in Libya said Thursday it is alarmed by “the allegations” of serious human rights abuse in Derna, including, pillage, destruction of property, arbitrary detention and a video of summary executions, all committed by Khalifa Haftar’s self-styled army.

The mission said these “allegation” could constitute war crimes if proven, calling for thorough and independent investigation.

“Perpetrators must be held accountable, in line with the International Humanitarian Law and the International Human Rights Law.” The UN mission said.

“Fighters who have surrendered, laid down their weapons, or hors de combat must be treated humanely. Civilians must be protected.” It added.
