The United Nations called on Libya's leaders to put the interests of their people above their individual interests, and work towards forming unified and reliable institutions, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Farhan Haq said in a press conference on Monday.

“Libya did not have unified and reliable institutions for many years and this needs a solution”, Haq added, saying this is the reason for holding the elections as soon as possible, with the emphasis that the various institutions, including the banking system, operate in a unified central manner.

Haq stressed that their call is part of the overall effort to ensure that Libya can once again function as a united country, and for this to happen leaders need to work together.
