The United Kingdom has appointed Nicholas Hopton as a new Chargé d'affaires to the British Embassy in Libya.

The British Embassy welcomed the new diplomat saying it’s committed to supporting the work of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, in securing a durable ceasefire and a return to political talks.

Hopton assumed his first ambassadorial position as Ambassador to Yemen from 2012 to 2013, before serving as Ambassador to Qatar between 2013 and 2015. In December 2015 he was appointed British Chargé d'affaires in Iran before being named as British Ambassador to Iran in September 2016.
