The British Ambassador to Libya, Caroline Hurndall, has stressed the need to preserve and broaden the democratic space in Libya as she condemned the alleged attempt to prevent the High Council of State (HCS) from holding its sessions, the HCS said.

Ambassador Hurndull made her remarks on Sunday during a meeting with the HCS Head, Khaled Al-Mishri, in Tripoli.

According to the HCS media office, the two sides discussed local and international efforts to resolve the political impasse in the country and the importance for the House of Representatives and the Council to reach a consensus on the constitutional rules and the executive authority and move forward towards elections.

The British ambassador further expressed her country's refusal to use force in political disputes.
