A source in the Tunisian presidency revealed that the French citizens who were arrested on the Libyan border last week were members of France's intelligence services and not diplomats as confirmed by the French government, according to Radio France International, (RFI).

The radio channel said that Djerba in southern Tunisia has become a rear base for foreign intelligence services, adding that intelligence activities make Tunisia responsible for the problems occurring in Libya.

Tunisian authorities said they stopped 13 French citizens carrying weapons last week, attempting to cross into the country from neighbouring Libya.
