The candidate for the post of US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland said that stability and peace in Libya can only be achieved through a political solution.

In his speech before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Norland said that his next mission in Libya will be dedicated to helping establish a cease-fire and bring the fighting south of Tripoli to an end.

"The goal of US diplomacy is to assist in establishing a stable government that enjoys broad public support and popular legitimacy," Norland said.

He also emphasized the need to enable the Libyan authorities to face the real risks, represented in ISIS and Al-Qaida groups and the importance of prospering and developing the economic growth in Libya, in order to achieve prosperity for all its citizens.
