The state-run electricity company (GECOL) signed a preliminary agreement on Tuesday with TotalEnergies for constructing a 500-megawatt solar power plant in the Siddadah district, southeast of Misrata.

On its Facebook page, the company said the solar plant in Siddadah is the starting point for implementing other similar projects aimed at supporting the nation's electrical grid.

It indicated that the agreement comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the GECOL and the Renewable Energy Authority to implement the strategic plan regarding integrating the electrical capacities produced from renewable energy sources to improve the services to consumers.
