Several angry residents of Tobruk have closed the only landfill in the city irreversibly after expanding in a number of residential neighborhoods.
The residents confirmed that the landfill poses a danger to their lives due to smoke and toxic fumes that straddles the area.
The City Council began a search for another location after citizens pledged to prevent any car or truck from entering the site.
The closure of the landfill caused in the pervasiveness and accumulation of litter on the roads and main streets, which led local sources to declare fears of a major environmental disaster in the city if no other alternatives were found.
