The Mayor of Tajoura, Hussein Ben Attia, has called via a letter addressed to the Presidential Council, the Ministry of Local Government, the Ministry of Interior and the High Electoral Commission, for Municipal Council elections before the end of the council's term in May 2015.

In his letter, Ben Attia called to start preparing for the forthcoming elections in the town of Tajoura, the eastern suburb of Tripoli, in order to achieve democracy and guarantee the principle of peaceful transfer of power.

He explained that Libyan law and its executive regulations do not allow extending the term of the municipal councils and that elections should be held in March 2018, stressing that the current security conditions do not hinder the elections.
