EU Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, has said that an immediate EU plan for Libya, similar to that of EU-Turkey deal on migrants, is needed.

In an interview with Italy’s La Repubblica, Tajani said the EU should allocate 6 billion euros to bolster cooperation with Libya’s two rival governments in the west and east of the country to close routes of migrants in the Mediterranean.

“Europe gave Turkey 6 billion euros to close the Balkan route. Now it’s the moment to do the same with Libya,” he said.

He also called on EU leaders to invest up to 60 billion euros in Africa to tackle causes of illegal immigration to Europe.
