The Supreme Judicial Council confirmed in a statement Sunday its duty to be neutral and independent, in order for its rule to be accepted by all.

On the occasion of the completion of its new formation, following the Council of the Judiciary's elections, the Council reiterated its refusal to be dragged into the existing dispute, stressing its adherence to stay distanced from political affairs.

It also affirmed its commitment to the principles followed by the Libyan judiciary during all the past years, including its dedication to integrity, impartiality, and the unity of the judiciary, despite the division that emerged in most institutions.

"The Supreme Judicial Council is watching the state of war between the brothers of the same religion and homeland," it stated, calling on all parties to put the national interest first.
