Operation IRINI has intercepted a suspicious ship off the Libyan coast, suspected of violating the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations on Libya, according to the Italian “Nova” news agency.

The agency said that “despite the bad weather, the IRINI special team got off a helicopter on the ship and verified its documents and inspected several containers suspected of carrying illegal materials, in accordance with United Nations Resolution No. 2292”, noting that the inspection process did not reveal anything suspicious.

The inspection process is the first for IRINI mission after Admiral Stefano Turchetto took command of the European Union operation at the end of last September.
