The Security Directorate of Shahhat said that it had managed to foil four attempts of stealing antiquities from the archaeological sites in the city this year; the latest was the one that took place last weekend.
On its Facebook page, the directorate explained that they found a funerary statue in the city suburb after receiving a notification from a local resident, pointing out that it has documented additional attacks, including the tampering and digging of some graves.
The Shahhat Security Directorate confirmed that it will take deterrent measures against anyone inclined to tamper with archaeological sites, including digging of graves or building of random construction.
