The Security Directorate of Bani Walid rescued 53 immigrants on Friday, July 2, as they were escaping from a human trafficking gang on the outskirts of the city.

A source in the directorate said that the majority of those individuals rescued were of Egyptian citizenship and had been kidnapped and tortured for several days by the gang, leading to the death of one of the immigrants.

The source also added that the directorate began taking legal measures against the perpetrators whilst providing humanitarian and medical assistance to the survivors in cooperation with Doctors Without Borders and the Safe House Foundation for Development and Migrants Affairs in the city.
