Chairman of Presidential Council said Tuesday that he had agreed with warlord Khalifa Haftar to hold presidential and parliamentary elections by the end of this year, to avoid more conflict in the country.

Speaking to mayors of the western region of the country, he said his recent meeting with Haftar in Abu Dhabi aimed to save of the country and de-escalate the military tension.

“We agreed to hold presidential and parliamentary elections before the end of this year, and the need to unify state institutions,” he said.

In his speech, he stressed a number of what he called “non-derogable principles” which include: a civil state, separation of powers, peaceful handover of power, and that there is no a military solution to the Libyan crisis.
