The head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), William Swing, said that his visit to Tripoli comes within the framework of assisting Libya in dealing with the issue of illegal immigration and problems that face those who are displaced.

During his meeting with the chairman of the Presidential Council, Fayez Sarraj, Swing said that the position of the organization is consistent with the Libyan position totally rejecting the resettlement of migrants as a solution.

For his part, Fayez Sarraj said that according to available possibilities, his government provides humanitarian support for those present in Libyan shelters until they are returned to their countries, explaining that the numbers of those who are accommodated are a very small proportion of the numbers located on Libyan territory.

Sarraj stressed that the issue of illegal immigration is not one for Libya alone, but one for the international community as a whole and to tackle it requires cooperation and coordination between all parties concerned.
