The UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame warned of the possibility of the return of fighting in Tripoli if the rug was not pulled from under the parties who want the fighting to continue, as he put it.

Salame explained in statements to the London based newspaper Al-Hayat that the UN mission supports the security arrangements in the capital in order to prevent the militias from encroaching on the sovereign institutions and to prevent the armed parties from outside Tripoli to use this as an excuse to attack the capital again.

Salame added that the security arrangements required the vetting of the militias to know who wants to switch to police work and those who wish to return to civilian life or leave the country.
