Update at 9:00 pm: An armed group from Tuareg tribe loyal to eastern forces takes control of Sharara oil field

The newly assigned commander of Sabha military zone, Ali Kanah said that Sharara and El Feel oilfields are safe, and the force entrusted with their protection is capable of carrying out its task to the fullest extent.

In a statement to Libya Ahrar Channel, Kanah said that the National Oil Corporation (NOC) can lift the status of force majeure on Sharara oilfield if it wants to, denying that both fields are under militias control.

He also called on foreign companies to resume operations in the two oilfields, saying that respective companies should demand the international community and recognized legislative and executive institutions to assume their responsibilities.

Kanah’s statement came in response to Dignity Operation’s claims that it had control of Sharara oil field.
