The permanent mission of Russia to the United Nations reiterated its position on the EU's Operation IRINI to monitor the arms embargo on Libya by sea.

Russia outlined recently through its foreign minister that the arms embargo on Libya should be committed to the international law and UN resolution 2229.

Commenting on the outcomes of the UN closed VTC on Libya held Wednesday, the Russian mission said in a statement that "Russia's main concern remains whether the IRINI process is compatible with the Security Council's decision.

"Russia will study the activity of the EU operation to determine whether the process needs a new mandate from the Security Council," the statement reads.
