Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that setting deadlines for elections in Libya is not a constructive move, emphasizing the need to reach a final political solution first, that would be acceptable to all parties concerned.

Lavrov said in a meeting with Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi that efforts of the international community should be combined to find a settlement that would ensure the unity and stability of Libya, under the umbrella of the United Nations.

For his part, Essebsi said that Tunisia considers stability in Libya a vital factor for security and stability of the whole region, adding that his country will continue efforts to encourage Libyans to dialogue, in order to achieve a comprehensive and lasting political settlement.
