Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, have called for an end to the fighting in Libya as soon as possible, the Kremlin said Monday.

The two leaders reiterated during a telephone call that hostilities in Libya must stop immediately without preconditions.

Putin expressed his appreciation for Germany's mediation to restore dialogue between Libyans and engage the international community more effectively to resolve the crisis, according to the Kremlin.
