The Director of Kufra Airport, Omar Qandil, stated on Tuesday that Kufra Airport remains closed due to problems with the runway.

Qandil confirmed in a press statement that air traffic continues to flow at the airport, but stressed the need to urgently repair the runway so that flights to and from the airport are not cancelled.

He explained that maintenance contracts were signed in the past worth 95 million dinars, but as a result of the security situation in Libya, none of these contracts were implemented.

He noted that the Airports Authority allocated 5 million Libyan dinars to maintain the runway, but they are waiting for companies to come forward with their offers so that they can choose the best.

Kufra Airport was reopened last March after two years of closure due to security problems.
