The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that it had supervised the transfer of 28 refugees from Libya to Sweden, where they were housed at the emergency transit center in Rwanda having arrived from Libya.

The UNHCR added that the majority of the refugees were being held in shelters for months if not years in Libyan refugee camps, after being detained due to their endeavor to cross into Europe in search of security.

The UNHCR called on the international community to provide additional resettlement opportunities or to assist in finding lasting solutions for those refugees still stranded in Libyan detention centers.
