The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Libya confirmed on Monday the death of a 10-year-old girl in recent clashes in the city of Zawiya.

“A child was reportedly killed in clashes in Zawiya northwestern Libya. A 10-year-old girl. It could have been your daughter. This is unacceptable. Protection of civilians is paramount and needs to be ensured”, UNICEF Representative to Libya, Michele Servadi said.

Violent clashes erupted in the city of Zawiya, on Sunday and continued until early Monday morning, claiming the life of five people, including a girl and wounding 13 others.
