The Information Office of the Vatican has stated that Pope Francis has appointed a new ambassador (Apostolic Nuncio) to Libya from the Vatican in Tripoli to run the affairs of the Catholic community in Libya.

The pope added that Monsignor Alessandro D’Errico, who is currently working in Malta, has been assigned to represent the Vatican in Libya; succeeding Monsignor Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli, who submitted his resignation to the Pope on 5 February.
