Libyan authorities launched a crackdown on beggars in Tripoli streets on Monday.

The campaign is being carried out by Tripoli Security Directorate, Ministry of Social Affairs and the Crisis Committee.

Tripoli Security Directorate said the first day of the campaign saw the arrest of 16 beggars of foreign nationalities, in addition to 19 foreign children, in Souq Joma’a, Ein Zara and Central Tripoli.

“The campaign aims to activate social welfare and social security and address the situations of homelessness in public roads and the situation of beggars legally and administratively.” The Directorate added.
