The Philippines Foreign Ministry raised Wednesday the alert level to the fourth degree in Libya, due to the ongoing armed confrontations taking place in the vicinity of the capital Tripoli.

"The situation in Libya prompts an immediate and mandatory evacuation of Filipinos from Libya," Foreign Minister Teodoro Locsin tweeted out on his account.

Locsin revealed that the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli has helped 40 of its nationals to return home since the beginning of the attack launched by warlord Khalifa Haftar against Tripoli in early April.
