Greek naval personnel conducted searches on two commercial ships whilst heading to Libya over the past two days, within the auspices of Operation IRINI.

Operation IRINI published photographs of the inspections and verification of the cargo of both vessels, confirming that the search was carried out smoothly and without difficulty and the manoeuvre was carried out as part of the monitoring of the arms embargo, which has been imposed on Libya.

A German News Agency recently reported that the European Union (EU) intends to extend the maritime surveillance mission IRINI for at least an extra two years, beginning in early April.
