One motorist was killed and two others wounded in an exchange of fire between angry motorists at an overcrowded petrol station in the mountain city of Gharyan, western Libya, Local sources reported.

The two wounded drivers were hospitalized in Gharyan Hospital and said to be in a critical condition.

Other petrol stations saw fist fights and arguing, which led to their shutdown for fear of an added deterioration to the security situation.

Petrol stations in most cities in the western region became unexpectedly overcrowded while officials of state-run Brega Oil Marketing Company attempted to reassure civilians that there is no shortage in fuel describing motorists’ panic as unjustified.
