The United States envoy and ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, said that his country and Egypt share a common interest in supporting a political, rather than military solution in Libya for the sake of stability, security, and economic growth in the region.

Norland added in a statement issued by the US embassy in Cairo that the United States will continue to support all Libyans as they seek to hold elections and to push for the withdrawal of foreign and mercenary forces, along with calling for the provision of basic services for all citizens in all areas of the country.

Norland further explained that they are grateful for the part which Egypt played last year in pushing the political process in Libya, according to the statement, stressing that Washington deeply appreciates the partnership it has developed in this regard.
