The US Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland on Friday said that the US decision to impose sanctions on the Kaniyat militia shows it is serious about taking actions in response to human rights violations, corruption and against those who undermine peace and stability in Libya.

In a video statement published on the US embassy's Facebook page, Norland said that the US support does not only involve supporting the political process and working with those engaged in it but also involves applying specific measures against anyone trying to obstruct the process and is not among the "friends of peace in Libya."

The US ambassador emphasized that Washington supports full accountability for "bad actors" such as militias or others, who brought suffering for the Libyan people and act with impunity.
