The head of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanallah, warned of the dangerous consequences as a result from the closure of oil ports, and more than fifty fields and stations across the Sirte basin.

In a message addressed to the "speaker" of Tobruk-based parliament, Aqila Saleh, Sanallah explained that this move will result in a loss of crude oil production of 800,000 b/d and daily financial losses of approximately $55 million per day, not to mention other effects such as the impacts it would have on fuel supplies feeding power stations in the eastern region.

He urged Saleh to intervene in order to reverse this course of action in the interest of the public interest, according to the letter.
