A gas eruption that occurred at the 103D field of the Zueitina Oil Company last Sunday is now under control, says the National Oil Corporation (NOC).

The NOC said in a statement Wednesday that the situation was contained within a record time of 72 hours with the efforts of national expertise and the participation of related companies and parties.

The team developed an intervention program involving an additional blowout preventer (BOP) to seal the well before pumping drilling fluid at high pressure to stop the spill.

The NOC commended the "team's" response despite the difficulties encountered by the NOC and its operating companies due to lack of budgets.
