The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the teaching of computer science in public schools will continue after rumors spread that the subject will be eliminated from the school curricula this year.

The ministry published Sunday a circular denying that interim minister of education Ahmed Abu Khuzam issued an order to cancel computer classes for this year.

Abu Khuzam ordered the suspension of a decision issued by the former Minister, Musa Al-Maqrif, to start teaching computer science from class one to grade eight in the primary stage, a statement by the ministry said on Sunday.

The Ministry of Education has suspended teaching of computer science in public schools from grade one to eight for the acadamic year 2021-2022, confirming that computer classes will continue for grade nine.

It explained that Abu Khuzam's decision was due to the lack of computer labs and skilled teachers in this sector.
