The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj met with the CEO of the Rabita Company for Medicines and the Italian operating company's officials in the presence of the Deputy Health Minister. Al-Sirraj's media office reported Wednesday that he stressed the need for providing Libya with the needed medicines and that it is necessary to reopen Rabita factory for Medicines to help Libyans. The media office added that the Italian officials confirmed that their company will ensure the technicians will return to Libya in the coming days and start repairing the equipment in the Rabita factory so that it can resume work.

Al-Jalaa Hospital in Benghazi received a dead man's body after he was killed by a landmine explosion in downtown Benghazi. The media office's Head at the Hospital, Fadiya Al-Barghathi said Wednesday that the man died immediately after the explosion. Many civilians were killed in landmine and war remnants' explosions in Sabri and downtown Benghazi as well as in Sidi Ekhribish area, where the last Benghazi fight took place.

The Ministry of Education denied on Tuesday the news that had been rolled out through social media that accused the Minister of Education of eliminating Arabic grammar from the curriculum, stressing that these allegations are baseless and totally untrue. On its Facebook page, The ministry explained in a statement that the minister issued a directive to form a committee comprising professors specialized in Arabic language, experts from the Curricula and Educational Research Center, teachers and inspectors to develop educational programmes in order to make them more conducive to the students age and would contribute in building their educational capacity. The statement added that the current educational curriculum suffers from repetition and redundancies which placed a tremendous burden on school population and had its negative results in the recent years, noting that the new curriculum aims to promote the Arabic language and help improve children's reading skills.

The Information Office of the High Council of State (HCS) reported that the Minister of Defense, Mehdi Barghathi, briefed the head of the HCS, Abdulrahman Sweihli, on the latest developments in efforts to unify the Libyan army during their meeting at the headquarters of the HCS in the capital Tripoli on Tuesday. The two also discussed the topics of the most important obstacles and challenges facing the work of the Ministry of Defense and the military institution, and ways to overcome them. The Information Office added that Barghathi stressed the need to involve all Libyan army officers from the west, east and south without exception in efforts to unify the Libyan army under the umbrella of the United Nations and away from individual initiatives.

The Amazigh Supreme Council has announced that the second day of the new Amazigh year 2968, which falls on Sunday, January 14, will be an official holiday in all local government offices in all Amazigh towns. The second day will replace the first day (Saturday), which is already an approved weekly holiday in Libya. The council added in a statement that the decision was made on the reliance of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and to the decision of the Supreme Council of Amazigh No. 3 of 2013 concerning the adoption of the first day of the Amazigh year as an official holiday. The council expressed their happy wishes to those celebrating the new year of the Amazigh calendar.

Armed clashes broke out in Bani Walid town on Tuesday between so-called Rapid Support and Intervention Force (RSIF) of the Ministry of the Interior and one of the groups described as outlaws and wanted for justice. A source from the town said the RSIF attempted to enter a home belonging to a displaced family from the south to arrest a number of wanted criminals after receiving information on their whereabouts, but a number of family members refused their entry, causing a number of shots being fired randomly from both sides. One of the shots caused the death of a citizen and the injury of four others with moderate wounds.

Member of the High Council of State, Mansoor Hasadi, said in a press statement on Tuesday that the priority for the House of Representatives and the High Council of State now is to move towards preparations of the law on the referendum for the constitution. Hasadi added that they will then go to the elections and a permanent stage rather than another interim stage in accordance with the Libyan Political Agreement. He considered any obstruction to the referendum on the Libyan constitution as an attempt to remain in power, pointing out that these stages require a referendum first and a review of the record of voters to verify its authenticity, then conduct transparent elections under international supervision without exclusion of any party.

The Libyan Navy announced on Tuesday that 15,810 illegal immigrants were rescued in 2017, according to statistics published by its Media Office. The number of missing persons was about 483, while 11 bodies were recovered. The Libyan Navy added that rescue operations took place in Sabratha, Zuwara and Garabulli in addition to the capital Tripoli. According to the same source, the highest percentage recorded for rescue operations took place in May and amounted to 3414, and in September with 3165 rescue operations. The head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Sarraj, said at the end of last November that the number of migrants in Libya, according to official local and international statistics, exceeded half a million illegal immigrants, originating from 24 countries.

Brega Oil Port announced the export of a shipment of crude oil to Italy containing approximately 600 thousand barrels, according to statement published by the Information Office on their official Facebook page. The UK-flagged oil tanker, Paramount Hanover, arrived at the port last Saturday after the departure of another tanker, which transported the same quantity to the same destination.

More than 100 illegal immigrants of different African nationalities have gone missing after their boat capsized off the coast of Khoms, 100 kilometers east of the capital Tripoli, the Libyan Coast Guard has announced. The Coast Guard added that 279 illegal immigrants of various African nationalities were rescued. Meanwhile, The Information Office of Libyan Navy said that the boat, Sabratha, arrived at the Tripoli naval base in Abu Sitta after rescuing 262 illegal immigrants. The same boat also rescued 17 migrants who were traveling in a rubber boat off the shores of the city of Khoms, among them were women.
