The High Council of State (HCS) voted on its Tuesday session to approve the draft referendum law on the draft constitution in accordance with Article 23 of the political agreement. According to the Information Office of the HCS president, the session took place in the presence of 94 members to discuss referendum law on the draft constitution and the possibility of forming a committee on the appointment of sovereign positions to work with the corresponding committee in the House of Representatives in accordance with Article 15 of the political agreement.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Aqila Saleh, in his capacity as the “supreme commander” of the military forces in eastern Libya, promoted 39 officers in the ranks of Khalifa Haftar`s armed groups. Saleh cited that the promotions were given to those officers for their remarkable efforts during the past period. Among those are the son of Khalifa Haftar, Khaled, and the son of the military governor of the eastern region, Abdul Razek Al-Nadori, in addition to a number of relatives of Haftar. Khaled and his brother Saddam are civilians who have never entered military or security colleges, yet they now hold military ranks and lead the two largest military brigades in the east of the country.

Tobruk District Court ruled that the lawsuit filed by Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi against the member of the House of Representatives for the city of Benghazi, Abu Bakr Baira, has not been accepted. Saif filed the lawsuit against Baira for what he described as defamation when Baira claimed that Saif received his certificate from the London School of Economics fraudulently. The lawyer of Saif, Khalid Zaidi, confirmed that the family of Muammar Gaddafi retains the legal right to prosecute anyone who defamed the family or filed fake testimonies against them.

The Undersecretary of the Libyan Foreign Ministry, Lutfi Al-Moghrabi, has expressed that the ministry is working to reactivate the Libyan-Tunisian Higher Committee and implement its outputs as an important tool in developing and following up aspects of cooperation and integration between the two countries. Al-Moghrabi stated Monday at the beginning of joint discussions between the two countries that such meetings are an opportunity for further consultation and coordination and to enhance the exchange of views and ideas between the two countries on local, regional and international issues. The meeting was held in preparation for future meetings of the Libyan-Tunisian Higher Committee to develop cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

The High Council of State (HCS) organized Monday a workshop to discuss a draft law on human trafficking. The HCS noted the points on the subject and prepared the draft of the project to be submitted to the legislative authority for approval. The workshop was held in Tripoli and attended by representatives of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Department of Law at the Ministry of Justice and members of civil society groups. For his part, the head of the Legal Committee of the HCS, Fathallah Sariri, called on regional and neighboring countries as well as international organizations to help Libya in the implementation of this law and other steps associated with illegal immigration and national security.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced Tuesday the training of 22 radio and press organizations from different parts of Libya on the role of the media during the electoral process. The mission said on their official Facebook page that the training covered the principles and ethics of election media coverage during a workshop organized by the High National Election Commission in cooperation with the International Organization for Democracy and Elections. The UNSMIL noted the role of the media in educating voters, reducing electoral risks and updating the electoral register, indicating that the workshop lasted four days at the mission’s headquarters in Tunis.

The Gathering of Derna People (GDP) has stressed keenness on dialogue and a comprehensive national reconciliation in an effort to lift the siege on the city. The GDP stressed that the siege imposed on the city has greatly affected their economic and social lives. It denied that it belongs to any political party or aspire to achieve any special gains, adding that their main goal is to achieve a comprehensive national reconciliation. It is worth noting that Derna has been suffering a full siege for more than a year and a half, which is imposed by Dignity Operation forces. newsDignity forces have closed off all roads in and out of the city and prevented fuel, cash and commodities from entering, which has resulted in dire economic and health conditions for the residents.
