Security officials told The Associated Press that under a deal backed by Italy, Libya’s struggling UN-proposed government in Tripoli has paid militias implicated in trafficking in Sabratha to prevent migrants from crossing the Mediterranean to Europe.

The Libyan ambassador at the UN, Al-Mahdi Al-Majrbi, called on the UN Security Council on Monday for assisting Libya to preserve its frozen assets overseas and save them from loss.

The General Authority of Culture has stated that it had no previous knowledge of the controversial book “Sun Shining on Closed Windows”, nor any contact with the author. The authority added that the book was not printed in Libya and was never subjected to any censorship. The book, which was written by a group of young Libyans, has been deeply criticized for including passages that have been described as overly erotic with the use of foul language and sexual references, which does not reflect the culture of Libyan street but rather affects public morals and Islamic principles.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, Mohammed Al-Gosri, called on the Presidential Council to form a force that would fight remnants of ISIS in areas stretching from Sirte to Jufra. Al-Gosri stressed that forces of Bunyan Marsoos has not conducted any military operations on ISIS targets south of Sirte because those areas lay outside of their control. He explained that the mission of Bunyan Marsoos is to protect the area from Misrata to Sirte, pointing out that the remaining number of ISIS fighters in those areas is estimated at approximately 1000 fighters from different nationalities.

The head of the Civil Society Commission in Misrata, Ramadan Maitiq, stated that the commission is preparing to launch a campaign named “Brotherhood” to help much needed relief reach the besieged city of Derna. Maitiq added that the campaign will be sponsored by the Medical Supply Agency of the Central Region, the Libyan Council for Businessmen, Misrata Central Hospital and the Zakat Fund of Misrata. The campaign will send shipments of medical supplies, food and fuel to Derna and the organisers called on neighbouring areas to participate in the campaign.

Three civilians, including a child, were injured when they accidentally triggered landmines as they returned to their homes in the Sabri district of Benghazi. A medical source at Al-Jalaa hospital said that three civilians were previously killed in a landmine explosion as they were returning to their homes in Sabri.

The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) has warned that the continued closure of oil production lines will cause a negative impact on the financial situation of the state and increase the suffering of citizens. The CBL said in a statement Tuesday that the continuation of the closure will force them to implement more strict policies on spending, adding that the government, legislative and executive institutions should share their responsibilities on this problem.

The head of the Presidential Guard, Najmi Nakoa, confirmed that units of the Presidential Guard are prepared to support forces of the Ministry of the Interior to maintain security and resolve the conflict in the Souq Khamis district, south of Tripoli. Nakoa added that mediation efforts are continuing to reach a ceasefire in Asbaya and Souq Khamis, calling on local authorities and dignitaries of Tarhuna to help halt any further escalations.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Libyan officials to release illegal immigrants held in the country, especially women, pregnant women, families with children, single children and the disabled. Guterres said that the UN mission in Libya had visited immigration detention centers In Tripoli, Gharyan, Misrata and Surman, describing their detention as arbitrarily and without granting them the right to object before the law.

Tripoli's security chief Brigadier Salah Din Samoui has met with the security coordinator of the UN mission in Libya, Paolo Serra. During the meeting, Serra presented a proposal for a project to support the Libyan police sector provided by the international community, which includes the establishment of a model police station in Tripoli for a pilot period. If the project is deemed successful, it would then be implemented in all other Libyan cities, they agreed.

The Libyan Airports Authority has called on all commercial airlines operating in Libya to start regular flights to and from Sabha airport after announcing the opening of the airport to air traffic and air transport as of Tuesday. During the initial stages of the resumption of flights, the flights would take place during daytime hours based on technical reports prepared by the airport administration and the approval granted by the Civil Aviation Authority in particular.

The Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea to Libya, Kim Yongzhi, and members of the Korean company Daewoo conducted a field visit to Zuwetina power station project on Tuesday.  The Ambassador and company officials were accompanied on their visit by the Chairman of the General Electricity Company in Libya, Abdul Majid Hamza. This visit is part of the company's plan for the return of foreign companies to complete construction and operation of power plants, which had previously ceased due to conflict.
