Renegade Libyan General, Khalifa Haftar, has declared that one of the warring groups in Sabratha is affiliated with his self-styled army, saying the ongoing fighting in the city is legitimate.

The newly appointed Deputy Minister of Interior of the Presidential Council government, Faraj Qaim, denied any disagreement with the so called General Command of Khalifa Haftar and his Dignity Operation, confirming that he still receives instructions from the Dignity Operations Room led by Abdul-Salam Al-Hassi.

Tripoli Naval Base hosted a commencement ceremony for 22 navy personnel tasked with securing the base after they had finished their two-week training course under the supervision of Italian experts. Navy spokesman Ayoub Qassim said the training was on raids, control of places, and search of people and inside vessels, adding that another group will follow.

Chief of Staff of Presidential Council Abdurrahman Al-Taweel ordered Monday the warring parties in Sabratha to stop the fighting and he tasked the head of intelligence office, military police chief, and Sabratha security department chief to supervise the ceasefire he ordered. He added that any violations will render the party committing them as illegitimate. Earlier, the Head of the Presidential Council and the western region’s military zone commander order a ceasefire in the city.

Presidential Council deputy head Ahmed Mitig confirmed that a referendum for Libya’s constitution as well as the elections will take place in no more than a year, adding that the goal of the political dialogue is going to end up with parliamentary and presidential elections in line with the UNSMIL’s Head action plan. He also added in a presser with the Italian Foreign Minister, Angelino Alfano in Rome on Monday that the dialogue is ongoing to help stabilize Libya for the coming elections and referendum.

The Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) Mustafa Sanallah said Monday that he gave verbal orders to the Sharara oilfield working staff to resume production after suspension since late Sunday as the armed group protecting the field decided to close it before the Tuareg and Tubu elders had interfered and helped the resumption of output. Sharara oilfield resumes normal production from Tuesday morning, Sanallah added.

Cancer awareness campaign with the slogan “one million ladies” kicked off Sunday evening at Tripoli Martyrs Square with attendance of specialized doctors and under the supervision of Health Ministry’s Cancer Awareness National Campaign as well as Libya’s Union of Fighting Cancer. Many brochures were given to the attendees of the campaign to raise awareness and to let them know the campaign’s programs, common mistakes about the disease and other issues that will last till the end of October.

Prime Ministry of the Presidential Council discussed in Tripoli new steps to support decentralization and to give municipalities more authorities. It decided also in the meeting to transfer the agricultural roads and transportation projects to municipalities’ authorities, stressing for the need for coordination to find solutions for the issues faced by municipalities.

Libya Volleyball Federation contracted Tunisian coach Fouad Kamoun to be the manager of the Libyan national team, which has started preparing for the African Volleyball Championship in Egypt, which will kick off on October 20. The championship will host 16 teams and the first three teams on the groups will play at the 2018 Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Italy.

The Head of the Presidential Council received Monday the deputy head of the World Bank for Middles East and North Africa affairs Hafed Ghanem and the head of North Africa office Mari François as well as the World Bank representative in Libya Marwan Abbas. They all discussed boosting cooperation between Libya and the World Bank in different fields as the priorities of Al-Sirraj government. The World Bank also offered to provide assistance in power, health economic, and financial sectors in Libya to help it overcome its crisis.

Over 20 employees of safety and security at the Libyan airports were given a course on controlling security and airfreight sectors at the airports. The courses were provided by the US anti-terrorism office and Libya Airports Authority. US Embassy in Libya said Monday that the course went on for two weeks in Tunisia and ended on September 26 with 24 participants from the entire country.
