The Libyan authorities released Monday three Russian sailors who were arrested by the Libyan Coast Guard personnel on board of an oil vessel (Mekhanik Chebotaryov) on September 17 last year. The three were part of an 11-man crew who were all accused of smuggling fuel.

The member of the High Council of State, Mansour Al-Hasadi, denounced the siege that is laid on Derna by Dignity Operation forces, saying the constraint on daily living needs of the people in Derna – such as cooking gas, medicines and fuel – will make the city a big mass detention.

The Libyan Airlines syndicates and employees have declared a partial halt of flights starting Wednesday dawn and ending 12pm for a span of three days, adding that they will stop flights completely afterward in a protest of the abduction of the CEO of the Libyan Airlines company, Fathi Al-Shati.

The British Ambassador to Libya, Peter Millett, said that the reopening of the UK embassy in Tripoli is heavily dependent on its security status, stressing that there must exist appropriate preparations for the resumption of the embassy’s work. He added that the embassy staff is visiting Tripoli every week.

The spokesman of the Italian Coast Guard said on Monday that they rescued 2200 illegal immigrants off the Libyan coast, adding that they found 16 drowned bodies. According to the UN, 3700 persons have died so far trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe.
