A team of US cardiac surgeons arrived in Tobruk, eastern Libya, in order to carry out open-heart surgeries for children at the Tobruk Medical Center. The team held a meeting with the director of the Tobruk Medical Center, the city's mayor, heart surgeons at the center, and consultants from Benghazi. The meeting discussed the schedule of the team that will carry out surgeries for children from different Libyan cities starting Tuesday.

The spokesperson for the Presidential Council chairman, Mohamed Sallak stated Monday that the ministerial committee tasked to address the situation in the south presented its assessment on the matter after undertaking a field visit to the region last week. He added in his weekly press conference that the chairman of the Presidential Council requested a short-term action plan that will ensure the provision of services and address the humanitarian situation in the region until all needs of the southern region are met.

The Director of the Investigation Bureau in the Attorney General's Office, Siddiq Al-sour, has confirmed that the Attorney General's Office in Tripoli ordered the release of the Libyan businessman Jumaa Al-Osta after referring him to the office by the General Investigation Department. Al-sour clarified that Al-Osta was brought to the Attorney General's office on Monday through an official record to supplement the investigations against him for alleged offences, noting that Al-Osta left to his home immediately after his release and that he was in a good health state. Al-Osta was arrested 8 days ago from his home in Tripoli in mysterious circumstances before the General Investigation Department in Tripoli announced that it was behind his arrest on charges of criminal cases.

Members of the French Foreign and Defence Committee of the French Senate reaffirmed yesterday, during a meeting with the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame in Tunis, Paris's support for the UN envoy’s action plan and the mediation efforts by the United Nations to resolve the Libyan crisis. Through its Facebook page, the Embassy of France in Libya welcomed the Cairo meetings aimed at unifying the military institution under the civilian authority, considering these talks as a complement to the mediation of the United Nations. The embassy explained that Libya today is in need more than ever for a unified and inclusive army that represents the whole country in order to combat terrorism and smuggling, and to ensure the security of its borders.

The Local Council of Derna reiterated on Monday its demand to Dignity Operation militias to evacuate the premises of Omar Al-Mukhtar University in Al-Fatayah district, southeast Derna, in order to resume classes. On its Facebook page, the Local Council called the university’s administration to exert pressure on the relevant authorities in order to accelerate the evacuation of the militias from the campus, holding the administration responsible for the damage caused to the University's buildings. “The University had to use schools and public buildings to meet the shortfalls in places allocated for studying”, the Local Council explained, stressing that these places are unfit for students.

Niger Ambassador to Libya, Al-Hussain Mellul, has denied any presence of armed opposition groups from his country on the Libyan soil. During his meeting with the President of the High Council of State, Abdulrahman Sewehli, in Tripoli, Mellul stressed Niger's respect for the sovereignty and independence of Libya and its support for the restoration of security and stability in the country. On his part, Sewehli praised Niger’s stance on standing at one distance from all conflicting parties in Libya, according to his media office. The meeting also discussed the bilateral relations, the security situation on the Libya-Niger borders and the illegal migration file.

An expert team from the Antiquities Authority in the eastern region has begun its work on preserving the mummy tomb that exists in desert town of Jaghbub. The site has been subjected to acts of vandalism and excavation of graves that resulted in the destruction of a number of graves, according to sources from the authority, explaining that the area includes four grave sites that contain more than 200 graves. A mummy of a young girl that dates back to 1800 years ago was found on the site with funeral ritual tools. The mummy was transferred to Italy for tests and later returned to Libya in 2009 where it was placed within the exhibits of the Red Castel Museum.
