Hun Al-Afiya Hospital’s maternity ward was reopened Wednesday after over a year of closure due to lack of equipment and shortage of medical staff. The section received the first birth case and the delivery was successful after the comeback and after a long suffering period by the residents. Two women died last month due to the closure of the maternity ward. Five deaths of childbirth cases occurred at Al-Afiya hospital since August 2016.

The Gaser Khayar Municipal Council held a meeting on Tuesday with Al-Ula Medical Company to establish an integrated medical city within the town, 75 km east of Tripoli, to provide full medical services to the public. The meeting, which was attended by the Mayor of the Municipality Amran Al-Bawandi, discussed the company's advanced presentation of the construction project. The specifications of the medical city and the mechanism for starting the project were also discussed.

Both Al-Ittihad and Ahly Tripoli football clubs have qualified for the next phase of the Libyan Football League, which is the four-round qualifier for the African Champions League and African Confederation Cup. Al-Ittihad qualified after defeating Al-Suwehli from Misrata by two goals to nil to secure the lead of group 3 by 18 points. Ahly Tripoli beat Al-Wahda 1-0 to lead group 4 by 14 points. Al-Ittihad will now face Ahly Benghazi in the next phase, while Ahly Tripoli will take on Tahady.

Sources in Al-Wahat region have stated that the German company Wintershall has ceased oil production on Wednesday at one of their fields in the region. The cessation comes in response to pressure from a number of Jikharra town residents, who threatened to stop production at Al- Nafoora oil field which is run by the Arabian Gulf Oil Company. The residents had previously stated that they would close down the field in the event of no response by the National Oil Corporation (NOC) to their demands. Threats were made during a protest organized last Saturday by residents of the oasis town to stop the production of oil wells situated in farms and residential areas of the town in the event that the NOC was not committed to the implementation of development projects in the region.

The eastern city of Benghazi received Wednesday assistance in basic needs including medical equipment, and medical and surgical equipment to support the IDPs on Wednesday. This came during a visit by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Libya, Roberto Mignone, and the head of the International Organization for Migration in Libya, Othman Alblisi to Benghazi Municipality. The aid was provided in response to the request of the Mayor of Benghazi, Abdulrahman Alabbar, on the opening of offices of the UNHCR in the city. Aid will be distributed to hospitals, to support the displaced with basic nonfood needs. It was also agreed to provide mobile classrooms, especially for schools in the affected areas, including furniture and study materials.

The United Nations support mission in Libya has documented the killing of 23 civilians and the injury of 15 people in various conflict zones in Libya last October. The mission indicated on its website Wednesday that among the civilians injured were 18 men, 6 women and 14 children, indicating that many came as a result of air strikes. The mission indicated that they documented 14 cases in the city of Benghazi, and the same in Derna, in addition to two cases in Misrata, and the case of one injury in Kufra, Tripoli and Tarhuna.

Derna Local Council has demanded the prosecution of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and the leader of Dignity Operation Khalifa Haftar, in addition to Speaker of the House of Representatives Aqila Saleh, for committing war crimes against civilians. In a statement, the Council called on the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, to request an emergency session of the Security Council to impose a no-fly zone over the city to lift the siege.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Libya has provided six tons of medical supplies to Bayda, Derna, Tobruk, Ain Mara and Martouba hospitals in the east of the country. The donations included materials for the treatment of 300 wounded and more than 250 women with complicated pregnancies, in addition to medicines to treat approximately 2,500 people suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, epilepsy, cardiovascular disease and mental health disorders.

The Illegal Immigration Agency in Tripoli repatriated Wednesday 79 illegal immigrants from Burkina Faso to their country via Mitiga International Airport. The Agency confirmed that the deportation of the migrants was carried out in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) office in Libya under the organization's voluntary repatriation program, which is designed to help illegal immigrants reach their homeland after their attempt to reach Europe was unsuccessful.
