The Deputy Minister of Interior of the Interim Government, based in Al-Bayda, issued an arrest warrant on Wednesday evening for the Mayor of Tobruk, Naji Maziq, for his meeting on Tuesday with the Chairman of the Presidential Council, Fayaz Sarraj, in Tripoli. This action falls on the backdrop of a decision announced by head of the government, Abdulla Thinni, which stated that any mayor or government official representing the eastern region of Libya would be arrested if they had any cooperation with the Presidential Council and its government, accusing those who do so with treason.

The Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustapha Sanallah, has expressed optimism at the return of the Algerian oil company Sonatrach, to work at their fields situated in the Ghadames basin. Sanallah said in a statement to Algeria Press Service that the NOC is counting on the return of Sonatrach to Libya in light of the gradual improvement of security, adding that the Algerian company has successfully achieved oil discoveries in Libya. Sanallah concluded that many oil companies, including Sonatrach, are closely monitoring security conditions so that they can decide the right time to return.

Flights at Misrata International Airport resumed on Thursday, a day after the workers of the Libyan Company for Ground Handling ended their strike. The Spokesman of Misrata International Airport, Sulaiman Juhaimi, stated that the handling company, which held a strike due to a lack of payment of salaries for seventeen months had put the public interest first by ending the strike and returning to their duties after giving them guarantees that their wages will be put as a priority in conjunction with airport administration. The workers began a strike last Sunday in protest at the delay in payment of their salaries, a move which left airport administration with no choice but to divert all flights to Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli.

A lecture on the status of the five Libyan historic cities that lay in danger was held on Tuesday evening at the Dar Hassan Faqih House, in the old town, Tripoli. The lecture was attended by a number of the Antiquities Authority staff, the Department of Historic Cities Management, intellectuals and members of the public who are interested in this subject. The lecture included information on the city of Shahat, and why it is placed on the danger list as it is one of the most important archaeological and historical cities in Libya and in the world.

Tobruk Municipality has welcomed the establishment of local, Arab and international investments within its administrative borders, adding that the city has excellent tourist features in terms of its excellent geographical location and climate. The head of Tobruk Investment Committee, Faraj Yaseen, stated that Tobruk is a natural peninsula with all the resources that qualify it to embrace the largest tourism projects. Yaseen confirmed that the Investment Committee had earlier contacted a group of different investment companies, in a step to invite them to invest in Tobruk.

The European Union has announced intention to continue its mission to train the Libyan Coast Guard personnel despite strong criticism from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. "We train the Libyan Coast Guard so that they can face smugglers in coastal waters and save human beings from crises at sea". A spokeswoman for Federica Mogherini, the Europe Union foreign policy chief, was quoted as saying in Brussels on Wednesday. The spokeswoman confirmed that the training program, which aims to train 142 members of the Libyan coastal protection force, will continue.

A member of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Amari Zayed, met on Tuesday with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Perrone, to discuss the suspended project of developing the communication line between Libya and Italy. During the meeting, which was attended by the Chairman of the Management Committee of the International Telecommunications Company, Mohamed Oujala, they searched for a mechanism for the maintenance of a number of airports and their development. The meeting also reviewed the political situation in Libya and the roadmap set by UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame.
