The UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, stressed that United Nations agencies should prepare themselves to support the education sector in Libya during a meeting held on Tuesday with Minister of Education Othman Abdel Jalil. Salame took on board the situation within the education sector in Libya and the challenges facing it during the meeting. The UNSMIL stated on its official Facebook page that Ghassan Salame also agreed with the Libyan Minister to join efforts to reconstruct the University of Benghazi. Some schools had witnessed some problems over the past period in Libya during the beginning of this academic year and the current semester when teachers protested demanding salary increase and improvement of their living conditions.

Members of the High Council of State (HCS) have called for an urgent investigation into the data of the Civil Registry Authority, which they said affects the Libyan national security. The Information Office of the HCS president pointed out that the HCS had received a letter from the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya demanding urgent measures be taken to ensure the verification of databases of the Civil Registry Authority, which showed significant differences in the statistics of Libyan citizens during the process of selling foreign exchange to the Libyan families that began last year, according to the governor Al-Siddiq Al-Kabir.

In an urgent statement released on Wednesday, the Department of Information of the Security Directorate of Suluq- Qaminis, east Libya, called on all motorists to take care and caution whilst driving through the main road linking Benghazi and Ajdabiya due to low visibility. The statement indicated strong winds are increasing kicking up thick dust while sand dunes are creeping up on some roads. The statement concluded by requiring drivers to follow safety guidelines to remain safe whilst on long journeys.

The Chairman of the Presidential Council, Fayez Sarraj, said on Wednesday that the way to overcome the current crisis in the country begins with respect for the democratic process, the referendum on the constitution and the elections. Sarraj arrived in the town of Jadu on Wednesday morning and said that the Libyan people held a revolution on the 17 of February for a change to democracy instead of authoritarian rule, as well as to improve their infrastructure and basic health and educational services. Sarraj was accompanied on his visit by the Ministers of Interior and Education, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, the Chairman of the General Electricity Company, and the Chairman of Water Resources Authority.

Human Rights Watch said on Wednesday that Libya will not be able to hold fair elections at the moment, adding that the election phase requires the right atmosphere to ensure that it is conducted in conditions of transparency and credibility. The human rights group explained that the role of the United Nations is to help Libya reach that stage so as to have a healthy election and they should urge all competing authorities in the country to provide the necessary climate for fair elections this year.

The spokesman for the Chairman of Presidential Council, Mohammed Sallak, has confirmed the arrival of the committee designated to deal with the crisis in the south, and that they have reached the city of Sabha on Wednesday to sit with the conflicting parties in order to broker a ceasefire. Sallak stated in a press conference that the committee will begin working to create services that will help aid citizens affected by the clashes, and coordinate with relevant authorities to provide the city's hospitals with medicines and medical supplies, as well as the transfer of a number of wounded for treatment in Tripoli hospitals.

The Foreign Minister of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Siyala, held talks with his Tunisian counterpart Khamis Jahnawi, over the preparations by Tunisia to reopen its embassy in Tripoli. The Libyan News Agency in Tripoli quoted the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s Information Office as saying that the two ministers met on the sidelines of the African Union Extraordinary Summit in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, where they exchanged views on the work included in the current African Summit and the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia, in addition to the relations between the two countries on topics of joint interest.

Lebanese Appeals Court sentenced Hannibal Gaddafi to 1 year and 3 months in jail for “demeaning judicial authority.” The court also sentenced Hannibal to pay 1320 dollars. The sentence annulled the previous sentence that stopped tracking down Hannibal for the demeaning of Lebanese judiciary. Hannibal was arrested in Lebanon in late 2015 when came from Syria. He was charged with hiding details in the case of Musa Al-Sadr.

British Council CEO and UK ambassador to Libya Frank Baker met with the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj in Tripoli on Thursday and reviewed the activities of the British Council in Libya. The British Council CEO said they are ready to cooperate with Libya’s institutions in training in social and educational events. Al-Sirraj, meanwhile, said “we are looking forward to cooperating with the British Council.”
