Libya’s renegade General Khalifa Haftar declared on Wednesday full control over the war-torn city Benghazi after more than three years of fighting that left thousands of people dead and others displaced.

"There is currently no army in Libya," said the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of the UN-proposed government, Brigadier General Mohamed Al-Ghosri; adding that “the Libyan people are in need of building a capable military force.” Al-Ghosri was reacting to the statement of Wanis Boukhamada, the commander of the Special Forces of Dignity Operation, in which he urged the forces of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous to join in unity with Khalifa Haftar’s self-styled army. In a press statement, Al-Ghosri went on to condemn the Presidential Council’s indifference to the sacrifices of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous made whilst fighting and eventually expelling ISIS elements from Sirte, going further to say "future governments will come and erect a large monument in memory of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous."

The Tobruk-based House of Representatives demanded that the UN lifts the embargo on arming Haftar's forces after the latter declared full control of Benghazi. In a statement on Wednesday, the HoR said lifting the embargo would help them liberate all Libya after the liberation of Benghazi.

HoR Misratan member Mohammed Al-Raied rejected the HoR's newly formed dialogue committee, saying it should be reformed in a full quorum session at the HoR headquarters in Tobruk. He added that the political agreement needs amendments by the High Council of State and HoR's committees, but he doesn't recognize the HoR committee, saying it should be formed in a session with members attending.

The first flight to take off from Tripoli International Airport in three years was for the Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Abdelrahman Al-Swehihli going to Tunisia and then to Holland for discussions with other Libyan political stakeholders in both countries.

Libyan national football team of locals started preparing for AFCON qualifiers. the team will play Morocco in a friendly match in Tunisia on July 23 before it plays Algeria as the first qualifier on August 12 for the first leg match in Algeria and August 19 for the second leg match.
